Sweet
Briar College's Department of Government and International Affairs offers
a diversified program in the study of politics, law, and global affairs.
Four faculty members offer over two dozen courses ranging from Islamic
politics and globalization to media politics and American political development.
The department contains three distinct curricula: the majors in Government,
International Relations, and the Law
& Society program.
Along
with English and Psychology ,
our majors are among the most popular at Sweet Briar.
Our
current and recent students have garnered internships at the European
Parliament , the Genocide
Prevention Center , the United
States Supreme Court, in both houses of Congress, and at the White
House , as well as in state and local agencies in Richmond
and Lynchburg.
Recent
graduates can be found at major law schools and graduate programs at the
University of Chicago , the Universities
of Texas and Virginia ,
Georgetown University School
of Foreign Service , American
University's program in Conflict Resolution , the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University , the graduate program
in public health law at Emory University
Law School, and at the graduate program in public administration at
Syracuse University.
Graduates
of the recent past can be found working in the United States State
Department, at the Nuclear Nonproliferation Program of the State & Defense
Departments, in the Secret Service, in the Peace Corps, as key staffers
in the Senate and House
of Representatives , working for lobbying and public relations firms,
teaching high school history, practicing environmental law, and screenwriting
in Hollywood.
